Hepatic Ascariasis

Abstract
A 22-year old korean military soldier was transfered to the general surgery from general medicine of Tae-Jon 63rd Army Hospital via 101, 121, and First Army Hospital on Aug. 11, 1967 with chief complaints of the pain on R. U. Q. which was radiated to back, chilness, fever and indigestion of 12 months duration.
On admission, his impression was acute hepatitis and cholangitis. Preoperative impression was gall stone and chronic cholangitis.
Operative findings were as follow;
A reddiah-brown, slight elevated induration, 4§¯ in diameter was caught out on the inferior surface of the right lobe of the liver. A dead adult ascaris was removed from the lesion.
Gall bladder was slight enlarged and distended. So carried out cholecystectomy and 18 pea-nut sized stones in common bile duct were removed by mmmon duct exploration. Also sphincteroplasty was performed after opening of duodenum by Kochers maneuver.
Pathological diagnosis;
1. Hepatitis due to parasitic infestation.
2. Chronic cholecystitis and cholangitis.
3. Multiple stones in common bile duct.
Postoperative course was uneventful.
